What to Put on a Senior Night Swim Towel: Design Ideas and Inscription Tips

A custom senior swim towel has more real estate to work with than a ball or a puck, which means more design options and more decisions. Here is a guide to what goes in, what works best, and how to put it together.

The Photo

The photo is the centerpiece. A large, clear, high-resolution photo fills the primary printing area and is the first thing anyone sees. The best options:

• Race start photo: On the block at the start, head down, ready to dive. Captures the intensity and the precision of the sport.
• Mid-stroke action photo: In the water mid-race. Shows the swimmer in their specific stroke (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly). Best for stroke specialists.
• Poolside portrait: In competition suit with goggles up, looking at the camera. Clean and recognizable. Works well when a strong action photo is not available.
• Block touch finish: Hand touching the wall at the finish. Works especially well for sprinters who race tight finishes.

The Name

The swimmer's name should be large enough to read from across the pool deck. This is the functional element that makes the towel specifically theirs in a lineup of team towels. Format: First Name Last Name, or First Name only if the design calls for a shorter layout.

Signature Events

List the swimmer's primary events: "100 Free | 200 IM | 4x100 Relay" for example. Keep it to 2-3 events for the cleanest design. The event listing tells anyone who sees the towel exactly what this swimmer competed in.

Personal Best Times

Personal best times in signature events are one of the most meaningful additions to a senior swim towel design. The times tell a story the photo alone cannot -- the specific numerical record of what four years of training produced. Format options:

• "100 Free: 52.34 | 200 IM: 2:01.8" (simple inline format)
• A dedicated stats block: Event name on one line, best time on the next, set at a slightly smaller size than the name

School and Graduation Year

School name and graduation year anchor the design to this specific program and this specific class. "Class of [Year]" is the most common format. Including the school mascot or logo gives the design a program identity that is immediately recognizable.

Inscription Ideas

Design Tips

• Lead with the photo, large. The most impactful designs feature the photo prominently. Secondary elements support the image rather than compete with it.
• Use school colors throughout. The background, text color, and graphic elements should feel like they belong to the program.
• Keep the inscription short. Under 20 words reads cleanly at towel scale. Longer messages can be included but at a smaller size.
• Submit the highest resolution photo available. Towel printing rewards resolution. The larger the print area, the more a great photo shows and a mediocre photo shows too.
